Why Zanzibar

About Fumba Town

Our community is hosted in a private neighborhood called Fumba Town, a waterfront development built with permaculture principles. It’s walkable and designed for serendipity: apartments, cafés, a gym, a supermarket, coworking, and a medical clinic all sit close together, so you keep running into the same good people. Zanzibar’s airport is about 20 minutes away, and Stone Town is an easy drive for nights out, history, and food.

Explore Fumba Town

Fumba Town is compact by design: you can go from breakfast to coworking to the gym without planning your day around transport. Explore the map to see what’s nearby.

From Pop-Up to Permanence

Zanzalu’s current form as a pop-up city is a prototype for our long-term ambition to build a permanent base in Fumba Town: a home for residencies, small conferences, and the kind of community that compounds when you can keep returning. We want this to become more than a once-a-year calendar moment. Between Fumba Town and new campuses like IIT Madras Zanzibar and Africa Urban Lab, nurturing a growing knowledge cluster, the Fumba Peninsula is the perfect place in Zanzibar for this kind of hub.
